A Tear for the Lost

A thousand little flowers, falling from the sky
Their soft pastel petals, curling through the air
Remind me of all that we have lost in our pursuits

So I shed a tear for nature, and I shed a tear for peace
I shed a tear for compassion, and I shed a tear for courtesy
Two tears I shed for wisdom, and three for kindness
But I'll shed no tears for hope, for we haven't lost that yet

But I wonder,
After all the sacrifices we've made to gain power
Were we better off before we started?
